Milton Keynes comes to life in this concise, yet comprehensive and multi-dimsensional exploration of a city often misunderstood.

Carefully and lovingly researched, this is a tale of roundabouts and concrete cows, of ancient settlers mostly marginalised and in danger of being forgotten, of a promising football team, of lakes and water sports, a thriving business and social community with unique issues and a promising future.

The reader is drawn into ‘a place of growing beauty and charm that truly has something for everyone’.  Details are woven together with the robust opinion of a proud stakeholder.  A strong sense of the author’s experience of  and passion for the city is conveyed right through the pages.

“It occurs to me that of all those who will benefit from this book, it is most valuable to the city herself. Milton Keynes will be very proud of a certain patrotic author resident called Susan Popoola. “

Susan Popoola is a human resources consultant who runs the HR Consultancy Conning Towers and its subsidiary, Leverage Points, which is focused on social and community research and development. With a first degree in Political Science and a Masters in Human Resources, Susan has always had a deep interest in, and concern for, the social issues we face within society.

After visiting Milton Keynes for the first time in 2002 and falling in love with its structure and organisation, Susan made a decision to move from London to Milton Keynes the following summer. Since her arrival, she has maintained an involvement in the community.

During a visit to Netherfield in 2005, Susan became aware that while it is an area with a deep sense of community, it is an area that is also faced with a number of social issues. This inspired her to take a closer look at the place that she had decided to make home, leading to the writing of this book – Touching the Heart of Milton Keynes.

Although the book is based on Milton Keynes, it has a much wider bearing, with information which is relevant to anyone within any town or city in the 21st century.
