Background

My mom and dad installed a great work ethic in me at a young age. I grew up on a farm ranch operation in South Dakota. My uncle’s ranch where he raised cows, and hogs, and grew oats, barley, and corn. I was used to hard work. From 1977 to 1986, I worked in the oil fields in Wyoming. I moved to Seattle in 1987 and became a journeyman electrician. In 1991, I proudly joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.EW.). In 1997, I came to a crossroads in my life, while working in Portland, Oregon. I wasn’t happy with the direction my life was headed, and I didn’t know exactly where or how to start making changes. However, I had a clue that my drinking had to be part of the first steps to changing my life.

First Steps

December 20, 1997 was the last day I drank alcohol. Once I quit drinking, I realized how much influence alcohol had on my thinking as well as my decision-making abilities. It definitely had a negative control over my mind.

I also started my home-based business and met people with a different mind-set. I started listening to the people talk on our training calls, and hearing about the different books they were reading. However, I didn’t have a great deal of time to read. Then I discovered cassette tapes and CDs, and started listening to them on my drive to and from work, and evenings at home after work.

A friend also introduced me to sleep-learning, which is a way of learning by listening to tapes while sleeping. These subliminal tapes played music with affirmations that I could hear with my subconscious mind. As my personal growth expanded, I discovered I had to allow myself to change to enhance my life. This was just the beginning of my rewiring, both consciously and unconsciously.

Gradual Change

What you will read in the next chapters are the ways in which I rewired my life, changing slowly, and evolving into someone quite different from the person I used to be. I believe strongly that personal growth is a thought process about spiritual and intellectual nurturing, and I wanted to share this experience. Therefore, I wrote this book to help others enhance their own spiritual and intellectual lives by allowing them to change. Consider this book as a personal guide for changing your life, and only if you are willing to change your thought processes and the way you think about yourself.

Tools for Change

At the end of each chapter will be mirror exercises and affirmations that I used to change (rewire) my attitudes about myself, and the way I now live my life to bring abundance into my everyday experiences. Feel free to use them to help you change or to motivate you to explore other ways that work for you. Change is going to happen in your life, whether you like it or not. By allowing and nurturing this change, you will enhance your life, both spiritually and intellectually, and hopefully find the abundance you deserve.
