Have you ever
felt lost? Have you ever felt confused? Have you ever felt angry? Have you ever
felt used? I am sure that you have. Do you think of fate? Do you think of love?
Do you dream of a break? Do you wonder what's above? I am sure that you do. I could probably go on listing countless
things that we as human beings either think, feel and/or act upon. I call these "things"
threads. Each one of us is a spool of thread
and with each encounter, journey, burden, etc a piece of our thread unravels.
Some of us may have enough thread to last for generations, some only for a
short while; but we are all connected. When we're all sewn together we create a
beautiful tapestry which encompasses a wide variety of story. The Threads of
Life is my story. Take my hand and place yourself inside the story. Take from
it all that I have given and know that no matter how dark and difficult things
seem, there is always resolution in the end.
Donato was born
and raised in South Philadelphia. He graduated from the Girard Academic Music
Program in 1996 and has been writing ever since. The Threads of Life is his first book. Currently Donato is busy
writing the follow-up entitled Aletes' Alternate Expedition. He is also
collaborating with various musicians and plans to one day record an album.
10. diamonds & thorns
I want to wear you like a crown of diamonds.
Instead,
you feel like a crown of thorns.
You've stabbed your way through my scalp.
Now I must be the one you adore.
Are you satisfied?
Now you're front and center in my mind.
Look up, Do you see the signs?
If not, it's only a matter of time.
I want to wear you like a crown of roses.
Instead,
you feel like a crown of wood.
Your rough exterior weighs heavy upon me.
I'd push you away if I could.
Please be a dear.
Wipe it clean and make it clear.
Let go of all your darkest fears.
Hand over the wheel and let me steer.
What am I to do?
I'm doing what I'm supposed to.
What am I to say?
You'll trample on me anyway.
Where am I to go?
I've never felt so lost, so low.
How am I to feel?
When faced with the hands you deal.
I want to wear you like a crown of diamonds.
Instead,
you feel like a crown of thorns.
