About the Book

When the Vow Breaks is a revealing look into actual investigative cases from the files of the Nation’s leading Private Investigator.  Over the course of a career spanning almost three decades, Mr. Adair has “seen it all.”  Cases cover the full gamut ranging form the simple background check to the more complex missing person.  The type of case that keeps him the busiest is anything related to divorce-custody, infidelity, and hidden assets, which is the motivation for this book.  Mr. Adair’s approach is both compassionate and compelling.  Look inside and see if you recognize yourself or someone you know in the many portraits.

About the Author

M. DUANE ADAIR learned at a very early age he had a passion for investigating people’s elusive lifestyles, activities and habits believed by the perpetrator to be known only by him.  Mr. Adair began his investigating career working for the FBI in Washington, D.C.  After leaving the FBI, he attended George Washington University and West Texas A and M University in Canyon, Texas.

After spending some time in the real estate and oil business, Mr. Adair began following his life-long dream of forming his own private investigating agency and did so in 1980.  Adair and Associates has successfully developed into one of the most successful private investigation businesses in the region by concentrating on being diligent, meticulous and persistent with a commitment to finding out the truth.  When Mr. Adair is not personally in the field investigating a case, you will find him busy sharing his experiences with audiences throughout the United States.

If you are reading this book, chances are you are considering hiring a private investigator (PI).  If you are considering hiring a PI, more than likely you are one of the 50% of Americans contemplating divorce.  Unfortunately, divorce is the number one reason our services are retained and because of the numerous divorce-related cases we have dealt with over the past three decades, sharing this information is the primary reason for writing this book.

My goal is to describe the role of a private investigator in the two most common types of cases seen in our office – Divorce and Child Custody.  The tools used to gather information for these cases and the importance of choosing an attorney who knows how to use information collected by a private investigator will also be discussed, as well as, other reasons for hiring a PI.

Although the bulk of our business stems from divorce-related circumstances, we do not promote divorce and would like to encourage anyone contemplating divorce to exhaust all possible avenues before throwing in the towel, especially when children are involved.  However, we do not condone abuse nor would we ever encourage a client to stay in an abusive situation.  Generally, when a person has reached the point of hiring a private investigator, the marriage is sometimes beyond repair.

Throughout this book you will notice “cases” frequently referenced.  At the root of each “case” is a human being and we have built our business by never forgetting this.  While it is easy to live and breathe this profession and derive great satisfaction from the actual work, the greatest reward comes from working with and serving those who become our clients.

This book should not in any way replace or override legal advice from a competent attorney.  Any comments or suggestions should be considered only as that and not as legal advice.

In an effort to protect the best interests of our clients, this book should serve as a guide (although not comprehensive) to planning and to the precautions one might take when contemplating divorce or if you think you might become the target of divorce.

If you believe you need a private investigator, hopefully, this book will help you better understand the business and feel more comfortable and better prepared to begin your search for the appropriate investigator to fit your needs.
