About the Book

“So you have a computer Now what??? Basic Introduction is a book that everyone starting out with a computer should have on their book shelf. Straight-forward, easy and most of all NON-intimidating this book sets itself apart from other computer books. You WILL learn the basics in a simple way and at the same time have fun too.   A computer book for beginners and users who want to refresh certain commands.  The instructions are so clear and easily followed you’ll soon find yourself doing exciting things on the computer you never thought you could do.  All the many stupid questions about computers were easily and clearly dealt – a “must read” for all those who have the common manual avoidance tendency.

About the Author

The Journey through computer education began for Karin Kilgus from the same place many of her readers start - using the self-taught method.  Helping her mother write a book led to teaching computer classes at the Clark County Community College since 1997, which expanded in 1999 to teaching computer classes to Seniors at local community centers.  Ms. Kilgus attained her Master’s of Education in Computer Technology in 2002.

Ms. Kilgus’ greatest passion is to teach her students how to conquer their computer fears.  Using a warm sense of humor with a gentle and sensible teaching approach, she makes the very complex subject of computer technology into an easy-to-take, digestible “spoonful of honey.”

Have you put your computer in the closet? Have you tried to turn it on, but don’t know where the “on” button is? Have you pushed a button and error messages pop up on the screen? Have you turned off the computer, and it yelled at you the next time you turned it on? Have you asked your teenage neighbor how to turn off the computer and he gave you that “look”? Do your grandkids know more than you on the computer?

If you have experienced any of the above scenarios or something similar, and wish to change that situation, then this book is for you. I have designed the book in a simple, easy to understand format. I have tried not to use technical language in my explanations and given steps to commands in a simple and easy to follow manner.

This book is by no means all-inclusive, but designed to help the novice user acquire some knowledge in working with the computer. I have laid out the book in a format that starts by explaining what the computer is, followed by the details of operating the computer.
