PREFACE

And out of good still to find means of evil.

A mind not to be chang’d by place or time.

The mind is its own place, and in itself

Can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.

Awake, arise, or be forever fallen!

Paradise Lost, Book 1

MY NAME IS JOHN MILTON. My apologies for intruding into the lives of the living. Many of us who have passed away are extremely worried about the future of Western civilization. The Renaissance is coming “to life”. Shakespeare is writing plays and sonnets again. There is moaning and groaning from the graves of those longer dead. Plato is beside himself.

I was chosen by my colleagues to inspire one of the living to give warning that the fate of civilization itself may ride on the outcome of the 2004 and 2008 American presidential elections. The title of my most famous work is Paradise Lost. My colleagues were of one mind that Paradise Lost: The Legacy of George W. Bush most aptly describes the wretched state in which we now find ourselves.

Al Gore was elected in the year 2000 by a significant majority of voters, yet through bizarre machinations, the man that came to power now threatens all that we stand for. The name of that man is George W. Bush.

Much has already been lost in the first four years of George Bush’s presidency.
