Rosemary Jenkins
Leticia in Her Wedding Dress and Other Poems represents the pinnacle of Ms. Jenkins' writing career. Within you will find a poem for just about everyone's interests: For anyone who has a pet, you will love Farfel and Barney's Poem based upon the lives of her own dogs. If you have tender memories of your grandparents, try Flashback and Down a Quiet Street. For those who recognize injustice in the world, Jacob's Brother should fill the bill. Nature lover? Read The Towering Mountains. Women's issues? When Gods Were Goddesses. Philosophy? The Plan and Whirlpool. Social issues? A Throw-Away Culture. There are also several exquisite poems in Spanish--among them, Los Ritmos de Vida and De Amor. Of course, the poem from which this volume gets its title is a touching piece reflecting deep love and appreciation for family and connection.
You will indeed find this an exciting, thought-provoking, and tender compilation of poems which touches the heart and the mind. Each one is engaging with something you will want to share with someone with whom you care very much!
Rosemary Jenkins views teaching as both her profession and avocation. She has been devoted to it for well over thirty years (her husband suspects she will never retire). She often takes students to far-off lands, hoping the time spent will enrich their lives and make what they have studied come to life.
Recently, Rosemary has published two non-fiction books, A Quick-and-Easy Reference to Correct Grammar and Composition and Vignettes for Understanding Literature and Related Concepts, both designed to assist the average "man on the streets" as well as students and teachers for whom they were originally planned.
Her flair for writing poetry, however, reflects her true creative bent. For her, words are fertile ground, rich and vibrant and energetic. She believes that civilizations rise and fall based upon how sensitively we interconnect with each other. It is Ms. Jenkins'' hope that her poetry will bring you an insight into her views on the world: "Jacob''s Brother" is but one example of her attempt to show how modifying our perceptions can make the world a better place! LETICIA IN HER WEDDING DRESS
Leticia--
so statuesque and stately
so striking and full of grandeur
gliding down the aisle
meeting him under the festooned arch--
offering gentle encouragement
with bursts of girlish laughter
Leticia--
his star, his princess
draped in champagne satin
looking like Greta Garbo (no, better than)
floating across the ballroom floor
gemstones adorning her hair
such a brilliant contrast--
those luxuriant black tresses
highlighted with precious, creamy pearls
Leticia--
of his dreams
so wistful, soft, and warm
so charming, strong, and self-assured
so sensitive, delicate, and graceful
and yet so fragile . . .
like broken glass
melded together once again
Leticia--
her song reaches out
so faithful and full of faith
so loving and full of love
so sharing, caring, passionate, so rare,
an extraordinary spirit--
that Leticia of the soul
Leticia,
Leticia--
majestuosa,
una estrella,
lleno de sueños--
Leticia de su corazón--
¡la amor de su vida!
