About the Book

The book gives future parents, nurses, dentists, and physicians simple, proven, step by step directions for producing children whose teeth will not have cavities, can be protected from injury, and can often avoid the need for straightening. If orthodontics is required, you learn how to obtain the best results at the most reasonable cost. On another level, you learn how private dental organizations have conspired with persons at the National Institutes of Health in Washington to keep the knowledge of cavity-free children from the public for 40 years. Much of that sordid political tale will make you angry while the antics of some of the people involved will make you laugh.

About the Author

Dr. Frances Glenn has 44 years' experience as a Pediatric Dentist and is certified in Orthodontics. She enjoys an international reputation in the fields of congenitally missing teeth, using fluoride nutrition to build teeth that do not have cavities, and in identifying a fungus causing gum infections in young children. She has the largest and longest followed series of cavity-free children in the dental literature, and her publications are cited in more than 15 major medical and dental textbooks. She has lectured all over the world and has gained many honors, including being the first woman dentist to receive the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School and has served on the Board of Overseers at that school for the past decade. Her physician husband has assisted in her research and writings for the last 20 years.

Questions and Answers

Q: Everyone in our family has soft teeth that decay easily. Can you change that?

A: We can change that easily, safely, and cheaply - unless you think $20.00 a year is expensive. (plus the cost of this book!)

Q: I know that if children eat no sweets and brush every time they eat, their teeth will be pretty good--so is the secret of cavity free children just more of that sort of advice?

A: No. We call that a "eat more broccoli and brush 12 times a day book". There is nothing wrong with the advice except that it is impractical and not in tune with the real world of children. We think that occasionally eating an Oreo(tm) is a part of childhood and we want our children's teeth to be able to withstand a normal American diet.

Q. If I read this book will I learn something I don't already know?

A. You will learn many things you don't already know and you will learn things that your dentist and certainly your physician don't know.

Q. How much money can I save by reading this book and following its instructions?

A. Thousands of dollars can be saved. Teeth that are especially resistant to decay are worth many thousands of dollars in saving over the life of each of your children. Actually the value of having quality teeth that don't decay cannot be stated in terms of money. In addition, the section on orthodontics alone can save several thousand dollars and have your kids end up with better smiles.

Q. If the kids' teeth are going to be so good, why are there chapters on diet?

A. Children's diet matters because it affects the overall health of the child.

Q. Is this some new experimental thing?

A. No, it was first suggested by an English physician in 1892 as a solution to the terrible condition of British teeth. He was ignored and the English still have the worst teeth in the industrialized world. It was first used in the US with total success in the 1950s.

Q. Why doesn't my doctor know about it?

A. It was squelched, first by the National Institute of Dental Research at NIH for fear it would interfere with water fluoridation. Later, dental organizations protecting the incomes of their members joined in. They were aided by Dental School Professors working for the toothpaste and sealant industry.

Q. How could they get away with doing that?

A. Very easily, thanks to politics and the Golden Rule.

Q. You mean do onto others what you would have them do onto you?

A. No, we mean those who send the most gold to Washington DC, rule. It's all explained in chapters 31-37.
