About the Book

This is a true story of a baby bird that fell out of its nest on a summers’ day. A lady named Rose Marie was sitting on her balcony and heard his cries. She watched as his parents tried to help him. Then two cats came out and the baby bird started running. Rose Marie ran downstairs and picked him up.  She comforted him and told him she would take care of him. She fed the baby corn grits and he loved it. Then she bought him a bird cage. She put it outside and the baby called for his parents. They came and fed him bugs through the bars of his cage. Then his parents did not come back and he became angry. He threw himself against the bars of his cage so Rose Marie took him out. He stretched his wings out and made his first flight. He was happy as he flew all over the house. She made a big swing for him and he ate and slept on it. At night he sat on her husband Perrys’ shoulder and snuggled up to his face. He made little baby sounds that sounded like meek meek. So he named him Meek Meek. He drank water and loved grapes. Then his parents came back and he tried to fly towards them and crashed into the glass. He fell and Rose Marie picked him up and revived him. She took Meek Meek outside to set him free. She gave him a gentle nudge and he flew off and then he flew back to her. She took him downstairs into the garden and babysat him. Now Rose Marie had to go away and she wept as she kissed Meek Meek goodbye. She knew she would never hold him again. He would be grown up and free when she returned.
