About the Book

Horses are wonderful teachers.  They remind us to pay attention, to take care of what matters, to appreciate our blessings and to just enjoy the ride.  In these pages are a few of the lessons that are shared between many a horse and rider pair.  The lessons here are in the context of our beloved equine friends as experienced by Abigail and Merlin, but the principles apply to all areas of our lives.  So read on!  Enjoy the lessons, and perhaps write a few of your own.

About the Author

Abby grew up in beautiful Smethport, PA and began riding horses at an early age during visits to her Mom’s childhood home in Shelby Center, NY.  Four glorious summers were spent as a camper and two as a riding counselor at Forrestel Farm Camp, her Mom’s home farm.  Abby rode with the Penn State Equestrian Team for three years and graduated from PSU in 2005 with a BS in Finance.  Growing up, Abby also rode at Huss Stables in Turtlepoint, PA, and she currently hangs her hat at Rainy Day Farm in Smethport.

Merlin was 6 years old when Harry Hurd introduced him to Abby in 1999.  Born in Texas, Merlin is an American Quarter Horse who teaches lessons in English and Western Riding, Team Penning, Trail, listening, friendship and life, among other things.  Merlin is Abby’s first horse and taught with her for two summers at Forrestel Farm Camp.  Merlin lives at Rainy Day Farm and is still teaching lessons to Abby, her Dad, her cousins and anyone who listens.
