My immediate thought was that I had no home where I could take my newborn son. We had lost our home, we had been traveling with overnight bags for 3 months, and I was under extreme pressure during a time in my life where all I wanted was to enjoy the chosen role to carry this life and present him to the world. I was living in a new country and facing many cultural adjustments, and the feeling of having no secure base to turn to was leaving me frightened, insecure, and helpless. The reality of being an immigrant really set in during this time when every comfort I once knew was removed from me. Motherhood was not all new to me, but this particular life experience was something new and frightening. My other three children were enjoying their summer and were thankfully oblivious to the challenges staring our family in the face.
