Cash Onadele
From the Author
“Deep within You” is a celebration of cultures. A delightful mix of experiences.
It reflects the post-colonial, high-life of African people in part. Some of these poems are inspired by local songs and sayings. You would also find many cross cultural compositions influenced by life and travel in the West.
I started a series of short poems reflectively on a recent vacation with my wife in London. This was to clear my mind of all the self imposed catastrophes in the New World. It posed several challenges that I could deal with only by traveling to the spiritual safety of my African roots. This has led me to "search within" for what we humans have within our souls. This has evolved to become the central theme of these series of short poems, prose and wise sayings of African Origins 2. There are many poems or sayings encouraging and motivating people to search within and face challenges as they come.
Following the sober soul searches, I came out of the other side feeling gay and happy. This is reflected in many of the sayings and prose about enjoying life, living married or youthful life. My wife and I had fun with them. I read some to her asking if she could find the African humor in them, (not that easy for an American girl).
I believe this body of work is full of these african wise sayings. The soul searching are ingredients for life, survival and moving on. Many other poems are light hearted and bring on good laughs if you can decipher a few cryptic words that hold the topic together.
I hope you enjoy these in your idle time and it settles your thoughts on higher plains.
Be entertained and have a good laugh!

Mortgage On Stilts
mortgage is a castle rocking on stilts
stuck in a barrel of gunpowder deluxe
ignited by debt, decades deferred
equity gains a dribble at best
when tough times call, the bank withdraws
our title is sold at auction, circa
the bank we trusted foreclosed on us
our credit is gone and so is our home
A Very Sordid Affair
it all seems a change from mundane life
a new lover who thinks the world of you
finally, someone is paying you some attention
he is so much better than your husband, you think
touching you tenderly and sensitively
making love to you delicately,
but remember...
a stolen apple is sweater than honey
when the reality hits, you would have
lost more than your hide and pride
the whole ritual, a sordid affair!
Maa Hoo Roo!
far above the high rises and the towers
i see your scratch of silver across the sky
distracting people who dismiss all else
you turn the blue sky into gray
and the wind you turn into a scatterer
men hold their hats, the women grasp their bags
you slam shut open windows, and wide doors with a bang,
clapping swinging objects, you shut down the sun set,
old and young alike start to run for cover
you turn around and scratch the surface of the sky again
this time, louder than before, delivering a drop or two here and there,
outside is the noise of panicked souls heading for safety
i say shameless harasser, if you are going to rain, just rain
and stop tormenting everyone down here
booming maa- hoo -roo!, maa- hoo -roo!
Deep Within You Only
if you were born and left no legacy
what do you do?
if you were to know no family members
where do you go?
if you were given no education
what do you say?
if you were only offered a life on the street
what can you do?
if you had no home
where would you stay?
if this is your station in life
what else can you do?
if this is your fate
can anyone contest fate?
you can, you only can contest fate
you only can challenge your situation
you only can refuse for any of these to define the true you
because deep within there is the true you
with a zest for life and a willingness to rise
above impediments, circumstances and situations
born with individual identity to make an impact
the way no one else can in spite of all the “if's”
(this is the inspiration for the title of the book “Deep Within You”)
