As a child, Dr.Cynthia Flowers Clay loved to read. She wanted to share her reading skills all the time. She would read to her mother everyday. Her mother was so proud of her and it motivated Cynthia to want to read even more.
To share her love for reading and children she decided to become a teacher. She received her Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. She later went on to receive her Masters degree in Urban Education /TESOL , her Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership. She has been an elementary level educator for the past 16 years. She knows the importance of reading and the excitment of teaching students to read. All students can become readers is a belief of Dr. Clay. Her rationale for writing this book is to motivate children all over the world to become excited about reading. She has touched many students during her tenure as a Teacher and Reading Coach and has made it a top priority to ensure that each of her students become readers. In "Anthony Learns to Read" she explains the steps taken to teach her son "Anthony" to read. She motivated him and shared the joy as he became a great reader.
She wants every child to experience the joy of becoming a reader because it is a gift in which every child should receive!
This was a very special day for Anthony. Not only did he repeat all the letters and sounds, he knew how to say them on his own! His mom was so proud of him, she gave him a big hug.
That night at bedtime, Anthony helped his mom read the story. He told her, "it feels great to be a reader, I want all boys and girls to be readers just like me."
