"Through the haze that veiled his eyes he noticed a figure approach, faceless, encircled in black, and at once, he knew that they were in danger. He shook his head, trying to gain control of his eyesight and began to scream. No sound reached beyond his throat and his reflexes, frozen from the toxic fumes, rejected his pleas for protection from the hands that reached out to grab him. He was as helpless as his friends to shield himself from the onslaught of this stranger. He could make out bits of movement, aware that the shapeless form was gingerly reaching towards his friends, one by one, and carrying them into the shadows. He felt something take hold of his arm, and he tried to break free. His mind continued to fall into an incoherent daze as he struggled to save himself. Somewhere, in a distant cavern of his thoughts, he heard the voice of a woman - beckoning him to come home.
