About the Book

The great Sufi mystic Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi once said, "All is contained in the Divine Breath, like the day in the morning's dawn."  If we become aware of the power of our breath, we have the ability to bring about real change, both psychologically and potentially on a vast scale.  But what is this breath that is fundamental to our existence?  In Breathing Alive, internationally renowned author Reshad Feild shows us that it is actually not so difficult to understand when we come to realize that we all share just one thing in common - the element of air.

About the Author
Reshad Feild worked as a naval officer, stock broker, advertising specialist, pop singer with the chart-topping group The Springfields, antique dealer and Radionics healing practitioner.  In the course of a lifelong adventure, which he describes as a "continual search for ever finer dimensions of truth", he came into contact with the teachings of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, met with Tibetan Buddhism and its lamas, American Sioux Indians as well as shamans and masters of the Sufi path.  Although Reshad prefers to have no labels, he has been involved with the path of transformation since an early age.  But it was not until in the late 60's he met his taecher Bulent Rauf, who himself stemmed from a long Sufi tradition, that he found what is called the Way of Love, Compassion, and Service.  He also received initiation into the Mevlevi order of the "whirling" dervishes in Konya, Turkey and helped bring their sacred ceremony to the West.  In fact, his whole life has been devoted to the quest for the purpose of life on earth and the unfoldment of the Eternal Truth, which appears and re-appears in the form that is needed and accepted in specific parts of the world, and at the right time.

We come into this world on the breath and we go out of this world on the breath. We share the same air. Now what a challenge that is! What happens to the air from the moment it enters our body on the in-breath and the time in the relative world that it takes for the breath to go out into a waiting world?  What does happen? Can real change come about if we are not awake to the beauty of the moment? Perhaps if we are asleep, the air that we have breathed in will go out from us in a poor state, rather than having been used consciously in the necessary process of transformation. Yet we are transformers of subtle energies. It is part of our life's work and obligation in gratefulness to the One Source of All Life. Could it be possible that with the breath we could fill up our own universe with loving kindness, beauty and well-being? We could open our arms, encompassing our universe, receive the bounty that is always here, and then transform all that is necessary to breathe out hope to a world that surely needs it. Knowledge anchors Love, and it is knowledge of ourselves that ultimately releases, in the joy of recognition, the pure energy that gives life to the planet.  The breath of the mystic turns the world.
