Chapter 1

Traci tightly buttoned her twin sweater set up to her neck.  The crisp forty degree day in the small town of Somerville, Texas was nothing compared to the frigid cold winters of Chicago.  Everyone in Somerville was scurrying about in big winter coats trying to escape the cold.

Traci was used to escaping things.  Escaping bad relationships, escaping dead ends, and escaping the mean streets of Chitown.   Although she had been very reluctant at first to move to the small, backwoods town, it had definitely turned out to be one of he better decisions she had made in a while.

She was able to save her money by living in a garage apartment owned by her friend's parents.  This was something she could never do in Chitown.  First of all no one there would ever rent anything out for under a grand a month, and in the city you could never trust strangers enough to live in their garage.

Somerville was different, everyone knew each other, spoke to each other, or was related.  The women were good homemakers, and the men were hard workers, most used their backs and Traci wasn't interested in any of them.  Shoot, she had only been on a handful of dates in the two years she had lived in the quaint little town.  Those had turned out to be friendships because she wasn't interested in cleaning no man's house, cooking his food, or raising hiss little nappy-headed brats.

Besides, after moving to Somerville she had got saved and turned her troubles over to the Lord.   And everyone knew any "real" Christian girl wasn't giving up any before marriage.  The few dates she had been on never turned into a second date once this was realized.   But that was fine cause she was happy working days at the library on the black side of town and taking a couple of night courses at the local community college.  She was bound and determined to be the total opposite of the whorish, man-stealing legacy her mother had left behind.
