This story begins midnight on Halloween night. While the parents went trick-or-treating with their children, or while the high school kids went to teepee or egg people and their homes, John Fitzpatrick was walking home from a friends house.

As he walked, he listened to the wind whistling through the trees, the leaves crunching under his feet as he walked, and the laughter of the kids.

Suddenly, he stopped. He turned towards a bush he heard rustling, but there was nothing there. He shrugged his shoulder and continued walking.

As he walked, it suddenly got colder. A chill went up his spine, and he heard a noise in the tree next to him that made him stop with fear. He grabbed a stick, tried to look brave, and spun around to face what was following him.

But when he turned, there was nothing there. "I must be paranoid because it's Halloween," John thought to himself.

He put down the stick, turned around and let out a horrifying yell, for a beast larger than a wolf, yet smaller than a bear, with the strength of ten men attacked him.

He kicked, screamed, and tried to get the monster off him, but it kept biting and clawing him; removing his flesh and breaking his bones until John couldn't fight anymore and just screamed.

Suddenly, the beast stopped. He looked at the sky and ran away, leaving what was left of John on the street.

John got a glimpse of his beastly attacker, then, in his place, saw a tall man running in the same direction, and his world slipped into an eerie darkness.
