About the Book

Katrina, an attractive health buff, is a novice innkeeper who sets out to entertain the guests of her newly acquired B&B inn. Helping her is her fiancée and his parents.

Hours into the first day of operation, a guest is murdered and Katrina begins searching for clues. Between dealing with an ornery, future father-in-law, chasing ghouls, matching wits with a relentless, sexy reporter who wishes to destroy the inn for her own purposes, and playing hostess, Katrina guards her independence -- all this on top of trying to help solve the mystery and also liberate her beau’s hopelessly dominated mother.

With the inn’s future at stake, Katrina tries to assist the no-nonsense Lieutenant Klonski in his investigation, unaware that she is one of his prime suspects.

"Well, let me ask you this. What do you know about this house, or inn, rather?" Jessie asked. She turned off her recorder and put it into her leather bag. "Off the record. All right?"

"We were told that in the early 1900s a young doctor built this place for his new bride," said Katrina. "Actually quite a nice story. Why?"

"And that’s all you were told?"

"Yes. Why?" Katrina said.

"You’re correct so far but there’s a part that’s left out. The story goes on that this same young doctor came home early one evening to surprise his new wife. It seems that he was the one that got the surprise. When he entered the dim house no one was there. Calling out to his spouse, he received no answer. As he entered the kitchen, from the window, he noticed a light coming from the barn. Going across the backyard, not knowing what to expect, he heard noises. Peering through a knot in the wooden door, he could make out a man embracing his wife. According to the story, he went into a rage, scared the wife’s lover off, and killed her."

By garsch," said Song.

Katrina remained silent.

Jessie glanced at her watch. "Just look at the time," she said. "Has anyone seen Lou? We’ll be late for our next booking." She rose from her chair and extended her limp hand to both Song and Katrina. "Well, it’s been a pleasure. Good luck and have a nice day."
