It is morning and a sleepy headed boy named Buddy trudges to the breakfast table, bewildered by a dream he hasn't quite shaken off. Seeing his confusion, Buddy's Mama softly encourges him to tell his dreams to her. After listening carefully, Buddy's Mama interprets her child's dream and fears of not being accepted. She gently guides him through each segment of his dream, pointing out all the possibilities there are with in each of us, and how our differences can be useful to the world.
Chris Walter is a Mother and Grand Mother who spends much of her time writing fiction and children's stories. She lives in South Orange County, California with her husband.
Buddy came to breakfast
As sleepy as could be
Mama kissed his cheek and said
"Tell your dreams to me"
Buddy twirled a lock of hair
And stared out in to space
Until a glint of memory
Lit up Buddy's face
I dreamed I was a Porcupine
With quills upon my chin
And everytime that I went out
The others all ran in
I was kind of lonely
'Cause the kids were scared of me
And when I thought of growing up
I wondered what I'd be
