About the Book

It is a horror story. It takes place in a town in Idaho called Evansville. In 1869, during the last vestiges of slavery, the slaves having been emancipated had angered many former slaveholders. Some though angry acquiesced to the proclamation and some were bitter that their way of life had come to an end.

Mr. Hyams, a former slaveholder hires a sorcerer to place a spell on the few remaining slaves who are about to make their exodus from the plantation. The sorcerer, Mr. Windham, chants a strange incantation, some in Greek and some in Latin, and points into the direction of the slaves’ quarters. What neither Mr. Hyams nor Mr. Windham knows is that the slaves had left the quarters an hour earlier. Mrs. Hyams entered the quarters to clean up the mess that had been created by the former slaves, in their attempt to leave. The curse falls upon Mrs. Hyams.

About the Author

A native New Yorker, born and raised, his first flight into literature was in the third grade. It was there that he had, instead of joining his fellow classmates at recess, picked up a book in the reading center. A book entitled, Beowulf. Reading it ignited a flame within him and opened up a world never before known to him. After that reading others followed such as Robinson Crusoe, Frankenstein, Dracula and so on. Later, readings from John Steinbeck, Arthur Miller, Ibsen, James Baldwin, Ralph Ellison, and many other authors' works were added to his repertoire. Davy Johnson also credits his life experiences for helping to shape him, summoning up images that are embedded within his mind, he is able to put those images into print, to be enjoyed by his many readers. He is College educated, but firmly believes that education doesn’t end with a degree. Education is a constant and ongoing lifelong adventure.

It is to that end that he forges on ahead, seeking always to be better than he is, so that he can become the quintessential writer that can be enjoyed by all those who turn the pages he has penned. Davy took all of his experiences, put them all together and constructed a story that is sure to frighten as well as entertain you, the reader. So stay glued to your seat, if you can, if you even dare.

Get away from it,
as far away as you can.
It’s agenda is hidden and it’s
working up a sinister plan.
If you it strikes,
don’t be number eleven.
It would be better had you
died and gone to heaven.

"Cruelty has a human heart,
And jealousy a human face--
Terror, the human form divine
And secrecy, the human dress."
