About the Book

Ronald Best and a powerful band of fellow Nefazians called the Power Council are in a race against time as they try to gain control of the White House and, ultimately, Earth. While their home planet decays under a green haze of pollution, they map out the personal and political future of a human clone named Joe Willie, who has been genetically engineered to be ruthless but easily programmable through medication. With unlimited financial resources and the support of the Federalist Party, the members of the Power Council are confident they can buy Joe Willie a proper political wife, a Senate seat, and eventually a presidential election. As the years pass, however, it becomes clear that Joe Willie is not as easily controlled as they had hoped, and the Council is forced to pay out more and more to cover up Joe Willie’s disastrous escapades.

Joe Willie doesn’t understand his own identity or the uncontrollable, violent urges that have plagued him since adolescence. His only joy comes from time spent with his beloved dog and stallion in the canyons around his Sedona ranch. He longs to escape from the daily hell of hypodermic needles, confusing mood swings, and marriage to a beautiful woman who despises him. Yet the thought of someday sitting in the White House motivates him to try to follow the Power Council’s commands.

Meanwhile, the Democratic candidate for the presidency, George Blair, is facing his own personal obstacles. After the sudden death of his older brother at the age of eighteen, George struggles for years to win his father’s approval, as well as the love of a young woman named Judy. Just when he thinks he’s triumphed over all the trials life could throw at him, he and Judy must combat the unearthly powers of the Federalist Party and their desire to see George removed from the presidential race.

Ronald liked their lodge, nestled in the vast green Roosevelt National Forest and the Arapaho Recreation area. They were so deep in the wilderness that it was nearly impossible for anyone to find their obscure facility. He had personally selected the site years ago when they had discovered how the thin air of the Colorado high country made cloaking their ships so easy. They could slip in and out of their lodge, landing and taking off from Trail Ridge Road and Estes Park, with neither radar nor humans ever spotting their ships.

For thirty years, they had been bringing their Generian people to the camp near the lodge for acclimation into Earth’s society. No one but the Council was allowed in the lodge. It was there they could take off their skins and be Nefazians.

The Federalist Party had grown rapidly from a nucleus of Nefazians and humans recruited from the Republican Party. The recruits were given shots which produced the temperament and features of the Generian race. Most were calculating, with a single purpose: to populate Earth.

Mainstream Federalists did not know the ultimate goal was for Ronald and the Nefazians to rule Earth. Ronald poured himself a tall Scotch and enjoyed his nakedness. He chuckled as he remembered a similar hunt. He had been buck naked, deep in the woods, when he came upon a group of wilderness campers. At the first sight of him, they had run into the woods, screaming, "Bigfoot!"

"You’re looking smug today." John Woods came into the room and poured himself a vodka. "I really enjoyed a couple of days up here away from the world, and I had some good hunting. How about you?"

Ronald had just gorged himself on a meal of raw deer. "I’m refreshed. I need to be, because I really hate dealing with Dean Ogilvy and his fat little family. But that’s the price we pay, isn’t it?"

He took a large gulp of Scotch and stretched out on one of the red leather sofas. "John, we’re so close, just fourteen more years and we’ll have our own president. We’ll take over Earth and be done with the stupid humans. It’ll be good to move our cloning labs from Nefaz."

"Sounds good to me, but don’t think we have it made," Jack Ingersol said as he joined them. Blood dribbled down his hairy chest. "There are still a lot of things that could go wrong."

Ronald could see that Jack had had a good morning hunt. "We will not fail, Jack. It’s too well planned, thanks to you and the stupidity of this race." He knocked off his drink. "Joe Willie is such a puppet, if we can just keep his drinking and whoring out of Sam’s papers and television."

"That is a very big if, Ronald, with a lot of pay-offs between here and the White House."

Tired of the conversation, Ronald said, "Get dressed." It was an order. He stood and stormed out of the room. Donning his human skin, he covered it with a new three-piece maroon linen suit, set off by a red shirt and a white tie.
