Looking for a Way Out

As Anita turned the ignition of the car, she wished she has a key to turn the alternator in her life because her battery was dead as a doornail. She released a heavy sigh as she put the car in drive and blew the horn to notify her children of her leave. Driving in a hurry the sound of rain raging against the window shield brings more misery into the darkness of her life. The garish sound of water splashes on the unbalanced Goodyear tires as she speeds through traffic to drive a dreadful fifty miles to an unwanted job that paid little of nothing, but her children must eat. Each drop of rain smothers the car with bleak, gray and dark patterns. For every MPH, she drove she could give an equivalent number of disappointments to match it. The agony compressed her heart as she grips the wheel tighter and grasps for a breath of air, but barely breathing her chest pains are unbearable, and the tears dull her eye-sight. The ocean springs in her eyes start to part as if they were the red sea, and the bags under her eyes try to restrain the water fall. Each tear carries its own problem so she tries to close her eyes, but can’t because of the fear of losing control of the car. But she started to loss site of the road as the car starts to weave and wave through the slippery roads. Just as the road is tarnished in black wet pavement so is Anita’s soul. Suddenly the road isn’t there anymore and all she can see is her past of broken promise of unfilled wishes. She grips the stirring wheel tighter, but the car isn’t under her control any longer, just as her life. The seat belt puts more pressure on her chest and she jolts on the breaks, and the pressure and anxiety reduced the blood flow to her heart. Now the only thing pumping through her heart is streams of trepidation. She sees nothing but the broken home she came from, and her lost children crying out from a hope in a hopeless situation. Her eyes had been forsaken by sight so she could only she the grayness of despair in her futile state; she lays her head arrest on the stirring wheel using it for the only support she had. She thinks back to her youth, for it’s the only thought that she can process that wasn’t out of desolation. She thought back when she was no older than five or six when life was so innocence. She thought about how she heard the name of the Lord, even though her parents weren’t God fearing people just the thought of the Lord made her tremble. Deep down inside her soul she heard a voice calling unto her, could this be the voice she called upon for so long or just another allusion? So, she started listening to that voice, and responded to his call. She cried heavily in despair saying, “O’ Lord, hear your child, because I’m tired of running and looking for a way out, relieve me of this burden.”
