He roused himself from his thoughts, gazing at the others; they had fallen asleep where they sat. The candle flickered steadily and he closed his eyes in an attempt at sleep, but the imminent events filling his mind denied him the rest he wanted. Quietly he rose to his feet and crept stealthily across the floor toward the hatch-door. Just can’t sleep, he thought? must get some air. He placed his hand on the door’s release catch pausing as David stirred. For what seemed an age, he waited for his breathing to settle back into a steady rhythm before continuing.
Satisfied at last, he slipped the catch and lifted the door an inch or so. A thin shaft of red light pierced the shelter’s dim atmosphere. The intensity of it made him apprehensive, and he paused until the full weight of his curiosity forced him on. His heartbeat increasing, he pushed the door open and stared wide eyed at the sight that met his gaze. He slowly climbed out of the shelter— his face always lifted to the heavens. There above him, poised in awesome menace, was the huge shape of the stricken planet.
Tristram stared stone-faced at the reality of his first dream and felt diminished by the magnitude of the spectacle. The huge mass of the planet turned gracefully in the sky with a sinister beauty that thrilled every fibre of his being. Drenched in a myriad of colours from the celestial intruder, he drank in the magnificence of the surrounding landscape in speechless wonder. Journalist though he was, it would take all his skill to put into words what he was witnessing now. It was as if the world had been reborn, on fire once again as it had been in the beginning.

Instantly he felt the twinges of excitement well up in his stomach, recalling the event as it had happened in his dream. The bouquet of a bygone age under sea wafted out from the cave’s gloomy interior. Everything was in place as he’d seen it in his dream, especially the apprehensive feelings he’d felt as he peered in through its iron grid.
. He paused, placing his hand on the wall just inside the entrance; part of him eager to venture forward, and the other afraid of the intense dark within. Intuitively he knew this was the place, and visualised the beauty that awaited him at the other end. He was powerless to hold back the overpowering desire to enter, and stepped forward into the gloom.
Keeping his hand against the wall, he rationalised that he had only to turn around and follow it back to return to the entrance. Each breath he took pulsed rhythmically to the pounding of his heart, with the darkness quickly crowding in around him. As he progressed he sensed a shallow incline on the floor, with the wall he was using as a guide bending a little to the right.
Pausing to look back toward the cave entrance, the light from it began to fade; barely penetrating the gloom the deeper in he went.

About the Book
Book one of The Cyannian Trilogy, 'Cataclysm Earth', progressively takes the reader through a fantasy of predictive science fiction. It begins on a factual note, submitting the idea that Earth's inhabitants have interfered with their planet's delicate ecology. Research and experimentation, affluent life-styles, immorality, deforestation all combine to depreciate Earth’s environment. During his civilisation’s collapse a journalist, Tristram Velby and his family, struggle against appalling odds. Having experienced three dreams, he soon realises the first’s similarity to the cataclysmic event taking place. The second dream takes them, and others lifted from Earth, on a voyage to a strange alien world. The third reveals secrets of a ‘Universal Technology’ locked in a temple that will take Earth into the ‘Celestial Realm’.
About the Author
Throughout his younger life the author suffered continual bouts of sickness that was to leave him bereft of education. The prophecy of his writing books arose from a séance he attended as far back as the year nineteen fifty nine. But relatively uneducated at the time it had little impact on him: a young person with a mind full of skiffle groups and the approaching rock scene. Over the years living with a medium, his mother, he has developed a spiritual understanding that reveals a deeper purpose to his life. He does not follow any particular religious sect, but possess a reverent respect and belief in the Maker, and follows the doctrines laid down by him to guide his life.
