About the Book

A young woman finds disillusionment but strength in her cherished home and hotel as it serves as a gathering point to tumultuous events of the 1920’s.  Prepared only for a life of erudite ease, suddenly, the massive walls of a fabled Byzantine-styled domed hotel in Middle Western America confine her to a tense battle of wits as she courageously defends her home and family honor from invading Chicago gangsters.   Just as invasive, the Jazz Age with its revolution in manners and morals challenges social norms.  The cataclysmic Stock Market Crash of 1929 shatters the pervasive notion of easy money to a crowd accustomed to the good life.  The author brilliantly demonstrates how these and other events and trends of the 1920’s have helped define modern American society.

About the Author

A very international author, Thomas R. Kill spends much of his time at his home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, returning to his native Los Angeles, California to teach classes.  Mr. Kill wrote West Baden Springs in London, England in 1986 while on overseas assignment.  Many people are surprised to find out that the setting of West Baden Springs is not only a real place, but a recently restored national historic site.  Mr. Kill’s inspiration came while pursuing graduate studies at nearby Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.  Having written his novel well before the historic hotel’s restoration, Mr. Kill now finds the true story of its rebirth even more dramatic and vibrant than any author could create.
