About the Book
How My Sun Got Its Smile is the incredible true story of Deana Vega, a young girl who overcame Leukemia. This brave girl not only learned an incredible life lesson but also continues to give back to other children with cancer. This book is her story, written in collaboration with teacher Judy Willner and illustrated by teacher Meloni Kinckner.

About the Author
Deana Vega is a happy, healthy, typical preteen. She is twelve years old and a sixth grader at Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School. Deana is the oldest of six siblings and lives with her family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This is Judy Willner’s first book. She is an elementary school teacher and has been teaching for 32 years. Mrs. Willner lives with her husband in Bryn Mawr, PA. She is the proud mother of two wonderful sons.
Meloni Kinckner is an art teacher in the same school as Deana and Mrs. Willner. She lives with her husband and doggie, Ozzy, in Oreland, PA. This is her first book, as well. The two teachers plan to write and illustrate many more books.
