When Elijah signed the married vows with his heartthrob Miriam he thought he was going to have a peaceful family life. However, he was in for a shocker. Little did he know what the future had in stock for him and Miriam. It did not take long before events started to unfold when robbers struck at his place of work and the workers’ wages were taken away. Though he was not on duty but he was still fingered as one of the suspects. While the LFM struggled to free him and three others involved, he had to contend with dangerous criminals like Scorpion and Smallpillow while in Jail. Meanwhile Zachariah and Daniel his sons run into Yusuf a boy of no identifiable past at the Student’s Academy. The threesome contrived a formidable partnership from that moment. However, something happened somewhere along the line and they were forced to separate after they left school when Zachariah disappeared and it remained only Daniel and Yusuf. The separation was unforeseen as it created a different dimension entirely. It was a different ballgame at this stage as all hopes were dashed when third predicament struck Elijah and Miriam when Daniel also disappeared. This added to the misery of the two, however, Miriam still had hopes, but it was a tight corner for her and Elijah until the very end.

About the Author

Obukohwo Odogun is a legal practitioner and a former staff of Nigerian Telecommunications Limited where he worked in several capacities and left as an Industrial Security officer. He attended the following educational institutions U.N.A. Primary School, Oyingbo Lagos, St’ Finbarr’s College Akoka, Lagos, University of Jos, University of Abuja and the Nigerian Law School. He is also an Alternative Dispute Resolution Specialist. He has also contributed several articles to the ‘Paulist’ and also the Celluloid. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and Justice Development and Peace & Commission amongst others. The writing of I RISE is a long time dream of the Author of making his contribution to the literary world and also wake up the interest of reading of Books in his environment.

Odogun weaves a complex tale of family separations and reunions, amidst a backdrop of political unrest and criminal activity in the central Nigerian township of Saminaka. There is much excitement in the early chapters. The action centers on a devoted married couple, Elijah and Miriam, who are trying to create a secure life for themselves and their twin sons Zachariah and Daniel. At the same time, a baby boy named Yusuf is found abandoned at the local school. The authorities accuse Elijah of playing a part in a robbery at his work place. He languishes in jail amidst career criminals with colorful names like Scorpion and smallpillow. It takes enormous amount of patience and perseverance for Elijah to resolve the many questions raised in these early scenes. Odogun, a political active lawyer, clearly knows his city and people, though for readers to stick with him their reward is a personally -informed perspective on a modern Nigerian community.

Odogun's debut novel shows a young couple's world descending into chaos in a Nigerian mining town. Miriam and Elijah live near Jos, Nigeria, where Miriam works at the local health clinic and Elijah works in security at the mines. The young couple is happy, in love and expecting their first child, who turns out to be two children-twin boys. In a parallel story, just as Miriam gives birth to her boys, two women on their way home from work discover an abandoned baby boy near a school. Handed over to the authorities, the baby grows into a young boy in care of the state. Life then passes happily for 11 years. Miriam and Elijah enroll their twins in a prestigious academy, the same one that the abandoned boy, Yusuf, gains entrance to on a scholarship. While Elijah is away at the ceremony welcoming new students, someone breaks into and robs the office of the mines, where he works, and steals workers' wages and murders police officers. Elijah was supposed to be on duty at the time, and his replacement had stepped away in search of a drink, their absence casts suspicion over them both. Soon, they find themselves in jail, held on suspicion of conspiracy. From that point on, Elijah and Miriam struggle to clear Elijah's name and overcome new obstacles, from Elijah's prison life and solitude, and money woes for Miriam. At the same time, their twin boys meet the formerly abandoned boy, Yusuf, and their fates intertwine. The novel has great promise along with serious yet fixable problems. Most notably, there's an inconsistent, unappealing style marred by an overabundance of passive statements. Aside from that, However, the author clearly cares for his characters and shows compassion for them.
