While Periwinkle was gracefully flying through the sky, he felt a Moth Master’s jagged fingernail scrape his chubby flesh. Suddenly, he was being scooped up and dropped down with a thump on the cold, hard ground. His heart raced when he realized what had just happened to him. The Moth Master’s strong, dark body towered over the little cherub. “Oh, look what we have here,” roared the Master with a loud laugh, showing his gigantic teeth. “I think it’s an angel.” Periwinkle was caught, and became so saddened and concerned about what would become of Cara in Otherworld. Grabbing Periwinkle by the arm, the Moth Master led him deeper and deeper into a dark, dreary cave where the two of them stood all alone. The Masters used these caves as cells for those who disobeyed their rules. Angels were at the top of their list. The Master began to ask Periwinkle a great many questions. Day turned to night, but try as he might, the Moth Master could not get Periwinkle to answer his queries. The Master demanded to know why Periwinkle had been traveling to Druines at such a great speed. Periwinkle remained silent. Although he feared what may result, nevertheless, he did not utter a word, remaining loyal to Cara, his chosen one. As the Moth Master grew more and more impatient, his face grew more and more cruel. “If you refuse to speak, I will punish you,” he threatened. Placing his hands on his hips, the Master glared into Periwinkle’s gentle eyes that glistened against the hollow darkness of the cave, and whispered, “What is an angel without his wings?” Periwinkle’s heart was now beating faster than ever before. He was so heartbroken because he knew what the evil Master would now do to him. From a case that was fastened to his black belt, the Master drew a pair of shiny scissors. Without any regrets, he cut Periwinkle’s graceful wings that now fluttered, like doves, onto the cold, hard ground. Without even looking at Periwinkle, the Moth Master bent down, picked up the clipped wings and calmly walked toward the path that led into the cave. His deep despair and utter exhaustion made Periwinkle fall asleep. Night turned to day, and he awakened to the freezing dampness of the cave. However, the dawn brought with it a very clever idea. Periwinkle realized that he could use his magical halo to create new angel wings that would enable him to fly to Druines immediately and get Cara’s story from Waldo. As he concentrated hard on this miraculous thought, slowly, a new pair of elegant wings began to grow in the exact place where the other ones had been. With a bright smile on his face, Periwinkle gleefully flew out of the dismal cave, into the bright, sunny sky, and straight to Waldo’s home. When Waldo saw Periwinkle walking toward him, his eyes became unusually large and a sarcastic smile appeared upon his face. "You know, Peri, there is one great thing I’ve got to say about you. You’re always punctual. So, what’s up?” “I have to get the story from you, Waldo,” explained Periwinkle. “Cara’s waiting for me in Otherworld. Now is the time for the story to be made real!” “Oh, so the princess is ready, is she?” Waldo jumped in. Periwinkle immediately revealed, “This time, I’m going to take you with me to Otherworld. You can watch the story for yourself, and when it’s over, I’ll assist you through your transformation back to manhood.”

About the Book
Two tiny pixie creatures find their home in the Kingdom of Chiaro on Unicorn’s Horn. Fairy Princess Bianca and her loving companion Luke live well until an impious Moth Master of Druines pushes them off the very tip of the horn and casts a spell on them so they are never to remember their life in Chiaro. As luck would have it, Periwinkle, a kind cherub, becomes Princess Bianca’s guardian angel. The cherub devises a clever plan to fool the wicked Moth Masters into thinking that their plan had worked and finally end the curse cast upon the two lovers. Periwinkle makes a dangerous trip to the Kingdom of Druines to ask his friend Waldo, a dragosaurus, for help. Waldo agrees to hide a very crucial piece of evidence in his puff of red smoke. Later, after a brief encounter with Cara, Periwinkle promises to return. Unfortunately, it is at this time when the fairy tale takes a turn for the worse—Periwinkle is scooped up by a Moth Master’s serrated fingernail and dropped on the cold ground of the Kingdom of Druines. Read this wonderfully written tale to find out if Periwinkle’s perseverance can combat the Moth Master’s malevolence and ensure that the lovers will forever live happily thereafter.
About the Author
Lina La Rocca is a professor of English and general education courses at Seneca College and an instructor of Academic English at the University of Toronto. Lina is certified with the Ontario College of Teachers and TESL Ontario. She has worked on several academic and professional initiatives at Seneca College including the cross-departmental collaboration between English and Liberal Studies and Early Childhood Education where her innovativeness sparked the addition of modernistic courses. Lina has shared her expertise in the area of language and literature at several conferences including TESL Ontario and College Association for Language and Literacy. She is a member of the Ontario Reggio Association and The Canadian Children’s Book Centre. This extraordinary author is a firm believer in education, innovation and collaboration. Her integrity brought several talented artists of different mediums together in this book. Lina’s latest joint enterprise is a theatre adaptation of Periwinkle set to be on stage in the coming year! Further to this, she is working on her third book: Broccoli Forest.
