I was now attending senior school and was aged fourteen. One day after school my foster mother said, “You can go and visit your real mother.” I said, “No I can’t she is dead.” My foster mother said, “No she is not, she survived the car accident when you were two and we have traced her. The child care officer will take you to see her.” I was so excited and full of expectation of a new life with my real loving mother. So the day came at the office and this strange woman came shouting crazy things. I thought she must be from a mental home. I was so devastated and heartbroken; I stormed out the room shouting, “she is not my mother.” It took me weeks to get over the shock and disappointment and the relationship between my foster mother and me became worse. One evening on the way home from school I had a panic attack during which I questioned my life and I asked God. “Why am I here? And where did I come from? Who am I? Who do I belong to? And where am I going in life?” I was afraid of my own existence and my surroundings and I felt overwhelmed by my circumstances. When I arrived at the park there were no children in the playground. I walked round a roundabout a few times until I grew tired and dizzy so I lay down on the green grass. It was starting to get dark, so I decided to go home. My foster mother shouted, “What time do you call this? You’ve missed your tea.” I said, “I needed to go for a walk.” I couldn’t tell her what was going on and how I felt so I went to bed and I read a book called “Great Expectations” for a while, then fell asleep. I found myself in a nightmare. I was dreaming that my foster family and I were walking round a lake and then my foster family drowned and I was drowning, suddenly I was in a panic, this is it, I am going to die, I thought, and I struggled to wake up, then I awoke startled. I sat up in bed and pinched myself to make sure I was still alive and awake. When I met Our Lady The moon was shining through the window next to my bed. I noticed my travel alarm on the floor as if someone had placed it there. It was not closed and the time said twelve. Then I saw a brilliant light shine from the window, it soon filled my room. About the Book
This book contains the testimonies of Catherine’s experiences, which are profound miracles of God’s love. Catherine was fourteen and in her foster home. After a nightmare one night, she had an awesome vision and an encounter with the mother of Jesus. From the age of seven, she had been to a Church of England Sunday school with her next-door neighbour Noreen, so she knew about the stories of Jesus, but she did not know anything about the Catholic Church. But the main, most awesome event occurred when she was seventeen. From Page 9 Suddenly I was going full speed down a tunnel, and I felt safe as though God was taking me somewhere. Then I came to a light so bright and dazzling. I arrived at a beautiful garden rich in colour, with fresh grass, flowers, trees, and streams. Clear golden roads led to mansions in the distance, and young people were talking and children playing in fields and gardens whilst angels flew all around. It was paradise, and the sound of music was everywhere, with a complete sense of peace and love. Then there came a bright light, and Jesus appeared. These and other miracles changed Catherine’s life. There is another miracle related in this book about a statue and prayers that the Lord gave her to help her grow closer to him. Catherine’s second book, “A Flickering Light Becomes Aglow,” follows on and contains the full stories of Catherine’s life experiences.
About the Author
I was given the name Jean Mary Hughes when I was born on the 18 of February 1954 to Grace and James Hughes at a hospital in Doncaster. When I was two, my mother was killed in a car accident. I was then placed in an orphanage in Guildford, Surrey, as my father was unable to cope and left to start a new life in the USA. I was told this by Aunty Mary, my father’s sister. I received my name Catherine when I was baptised.
