About the Book

Based on a true adventure at a historic California one-room schoolhouse, Tex, the longhorn steer, breaks down the schoolyard fence into where the “grass is greener” and leads his beloved herd into an unexpected nightmare! But all is not lost, as the neighborhood community saves the day and the 1869 Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse.

About the Author

The fourth generation in a ranching and farming family, this award-winning education specialist has been nationally recognized for her contributions to agriculture and education. Preserving the past and creating the future, Tina teaches from her historic 1869 Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse and is cofounder and associate director of the McEnroe Reading and Language Arts Clinic in the Graduate School of Education, University of California at Santa Barbara. She recently received an honorary doctorate from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Tina, currently Santa Barbara County Cattlewoman of the Year, resides with her husband, Paul, on their Rancho La Purisima, a working cattle ranch in California’s Santa Ynez Valley. Robin is a fifth-generation Solvang, California, native. Her family has been involved in farming and agriculture since they moved to the area in 1911, and the appreciation for the industry is deeply rooted in her heart. As a young girl, Robin was an active member of her local 4-H and FFA chapters, raising hogs and cattle for ten years. Her grandmother and mother have been active members in the Santa Barbara County Cattlewomen’s Association for years; it is through that organization that she was introduced to Tina and Pam. With Robin’s love for creative writing and her love for the cattle industry, she was thrilled to team up with these amazing women who have inspired so many.
