About the Book

I hope you enjoy Life’s Verse, and I really do hope that some of the words strike a chord with you. All the poems that you are about to read are truly written from the heart and are what I felt at the time of writing. I have split this small book into three chapters. The first chapter has a few poems that I wrote during my childhood. The second covers my married life and my time in the army. The final chapter covers the latter period since I lost my wife Caroline. I make no apologies for this being the largest section as this has been the hardest part of my life to deal with and has created the most thoughts that I have put into verse.

About the Author

At the time of writing this (2017) Ian Hammond is approaching 52 years old. He is a normal bloke who happens to enjoy putting his thoughts into verse. He had a pretty normal childhood growing up in South London for his early years. His father worked for an American bank and his Mum was a typist and he had two siblings. At 11 they moved into the leafy suburbs of Surrey and he went to a comprehensive school in Guildford. At 16 years old, he said goodbye to family and friends and followed his older brother into the Army. He joined an incredibly proud tank Regiment full of characters and some great people. He did have a few gap years from the Army from 86 – 90 where he ran my own landscaping business. Unfortunately it didn’t work out so he re-enlisted in 1990 and that was that, until 2013. He is now a Health and Safety manager working in construction and buildings maintenance. He met his beautiful wife Caroline in Germany and they have two sons and two granddaughters, currently. Sadly his wife passed away from breast cancer in the summer of 2016 and this book is unequivocally dedicated to her memory.
