Made for More and Saved for Something

As Moses was leading the flock on the back side of a mountain called Horeb, which means, “desolate region,” something on that particular day was different. There was a burning bush that would not be consumed. This was a bush he might have seen and walked by a hundred times, but that day, it was on fire and the flame would not be put out. Moses was captivated by the bush, so he walked over to see the strange sight. I can only imagine what he might have been thinking. As he slowly approached the bush, did he wonder what kept it from being consumed?... When the Lord saw Moses at the bush, He called to him from within the bush, “‘Moses! Moses!’” Moses said, “‘Here I am.’” God said, “‘Do not come any closer, take off your sandals, for the place you are standing on is holy ground.’” I’ve gleaned many truths from this story, but one truth I can plainly see is God knows where you are. He knows if you’re on the back side of a mountain tending to the flock, or if you’re in a cubicle in an office on the fifth floor. God knows what house you live in and where you shop for groceries. God has not misplaced you. Moses was just doing his normal flock-tending, something he had done for forty years. That is until he saw something he was not prepared to see and heard something he was not prepared to hear. God was speaking from the bush. He said, “Take off your sandals for the place you are standing on is holy ground.” In other words, “Take off the sandals that walked through the dirt and dust you chose to walk through. I’m calling you from your past into your future, a future I created for you to walk in. You were made for more and saved for something, Moses. Now, My son, you are standing on My ground. I’m calling you to the uncommon. I’m using the most unlikely to accomplish the most important.” Take off the shoes of your past. I’m telling you, y’all, your past does not disqualify you. You were who you were before God called you. Moses was still Moses. He was still a murderer hiding behind a mountain, but God chose to use him even though he had a past. He had sinned. He was not perfect, and he was hiding out and hoping not to be seen or recognized. Moses was made for more and saved for something…and so are you. It’s time, y’all. Take off the past, forgive what needs to be forgiven, give grace where you need to give grace, restore what needs restoration, and get ready for God to use you. He is about to do a new thing in your life, but you can’t take those old shoes with you. The shoes may represent an old way of thinking, a way of life, a concept, a negative seed that was sown in you long ago, an old image, or who you were before Christ was real to you. Remove the hindrances in your life. God has a plan. Too often we settle for Plan B because we don’t have the faith for Plan A. Are you ready for a change, a change that requires Plan A faith?
