Just us Two: Ned and Rosie’s Gold Wing Discovery

A Mid-Life crisis? A hankering for 'lost youth'? Pushing back the horizons?. Whatever! This is a romp through ten happy Gold Wing years of discovery, adventure and fun into the unknown, touring where this happy middle-aged couple had never been before.

The adventures start when Ned wanted something to tinker with after a number of years bike-less. Rosie pleaded: "If we buy a scooter will you travel? Will you brave the ferry? Will you? Can we? ... " and bought a Honda 1100cc. Fate took a hand though as Rosie discovered a Honda Gold Wing 1500cc motorbike by chance. Ned thought he had died and gone to heaven and they sailed off to the west coast of Ireland two weeks later on what was to be a profound emotional journey as they discovered Rosie's long-lost family.

Join Ned and Rosie and they go coast to coast in France and Spain; cross the French and Swiss Alps; follow the Champagne Route; ride through the sun scorched earth of the Sierras to follow a dream; brave torrential thunderstorms in the Andorran mountains, praying for safety as they ride into the unknown; ride in the intense heat into the Dolomites

Just Us Two - tale of discovery and adventure;a tale of courage and triumph over adversity as, following illness, they made mental and practical adaptations in order to continue to do what they could while they could.

Share the spills and thrills as they grow and stretch within themselves, pushing back their horizons as they Wing it their way, on their own - Just Us Two.

Growing up in a Lancashire, Rosalie was a dreamer and late developer but confounded her exasperated teachers, friends and family alike by gaining a scholarship to Grammar School. Following the traditional route of marriage and full-time motherhood, she settled in North Wales with ‘Ned’ and her family, eventually developing careers in sales management and latterly further education as a Learning Consultant in Work Based Learning.

Rosalie has met many challenges in her life and had long wanted to write a book, having various storylines popping up inside her head for many years. Her writing evolved through undertaking various development opportunities and academic studies in later life, achieving a BA Hons Degree from The Manchester Metropolitan University. Rosalie has also written and collaborated on various learning and marketing projects.

During their first Gold Wing experience, finding that the words flowed when recording their profound emotional experiences (especially in Ireland) she realised that there was beginnings of a story. As the years passed they extended their horizons; travelling over 50,000 miles on their own-Just Us Two. Rosalie wrote about their amazing experiences as feature articles, eventually concluding that together, they formed an inspiring story of adventure and realisation of dreams.

Rosalie wanted to share their story and so, with the support of ‘Ned’, her ‘baby’ was born.

' I stomped around in heavy jacket and trousers and wondered what I had got myself into. Ned was full of beaming smiles and satisfaction. Another biker was 'born again'.
It had long been a dream of mine to visit Ireland and, hopefully, hear about Grandma and Granddad. To see where they came from would have been enough. It is strange how events seem to take over as if someone was guiding us along a path ...

Rosie stood transfixed. "What is it?" she asked in wonder. "It is a Gold Wing." Ned replied. "That is what we need if we are going to tour," Rosie said. Ned thought he had died and gone to heaven.
After Ireland where Rosie was overwhelmed to find family still alive and well - 'this is where Grandma came from'; France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland  ...
