How do AuthorHouse royalties work?
AuthorHouse takes seriously the timely payment of royalties to our authors. Below are some of the most common royalty questions we receive and answers to those questions.
How are my royalties calculated?
Royalties are calculated based on the number of books, and now e-books, a particular author sells through the AuthorHouse online bookstore, other online retailers (like Amazon), and brick and mortar retailers and distributors.
When will I receive my royalties?
Every quarter, AuthorHouse authors receive a detailed accounting of their sales with their royalty cheques (once they reach £75.00). Should an author choose to receive royalties through EFT (electronic funds transfer), the £75.00 threshold need not be met. Ultimately, authors should refer to their Author Agreement, as it lays out all the guidelines for royalty distribution.
My friend/family member told me they bought a bunch of books. Why have I not received royalties for these purchases?
It is possible the purchase was made outside of the most current royalty period meaning that these sales will be reflected in your next royalty statement.
Secondly, this person may have expressed intent to purchase these books, but has yet to do so. If this is the case, encourage them to purchase them directly from AuthorHouse or www.authorhouse.co.uk as you receive greater royalties from customer purchases made directly from AuthorHouse.

How is my book sold on Amazon?
Amazon sells books in two different ways:
First, through direct sales. These are exactly as they sound, direct sales of books from Amazon to the reader. Amazon collects the funds from the book buyer, ships the book, then forwards the royalties to AuthorHouse, which are in turn distributed to the author.
Second, Amazon sells books through book resellers who list their titles on amazon.com. These listings often cause confusion, because authors believe Amazon is selling “used” copies of their books. In fact, Amazon itself is likely not selling “used” copies of books – resellers are selling these “used” copies – and they may not even in fact be “used.”
Resellers, not affiliated with Amazon, are permitted to list books they have for sale on amazon.com. As such, they may list the books as “used,” and price them differently than copies of the same book that Amazon sells through direct sales.
