Self Publishing Frequently Asked Questions

When will I choose the selling price for my book?

At AuthorHouse, you’ll work with Publishing Advisors throughout the publishing process to create a quality book you’ll be proud of. Once you have approved a galley of the interior of the book and your full colour cover, you’ll then be able to choose your royalty percentage and set the selling price for your book.

Once we know the base cost of printing a copy of your book, which is determined by your final page count, book size and format, you choose the royalty percentage you’d like to earn on each book. The final selling price of the book equals the base printing cost plus the amount of your royalty. For example, if your book costs six pounds to print, and you choose a royalty of three pounds per book, your final selling price will be £9. The base costs for printing books for retail sales are higher, because a 40% discount to the bookseller is included. While our wholesale prices can be raised at your request (as long as we have not already submitted your book to our printer), they cannot be lowered. Electronic books are typically priced lower than the printed version.

After your book is published, we pay you a royalty fee which can range from 5 to 15 percent on retail sales and between 10 and 50 percent on books sold on the AuthorHouse website. The royalty schedule you choose will affect the price of your book: the higher your royalties, the higher your book's price will be.
