Bridget Monahan is an elementary school teacher and she's about to find out the answers. Her heart is on the mend from many failed relationships, she's a skeptic when it comes to finding love, and the last thing she wants is to be set up on a blind date. However, she's introduced to the charming bad boy Tristan Hathaway. Bridget's first impression of Tristan is he reminds her of a beautiful fallen angel with a British accent that makes her knees weak. When they begin their passionate romance, Tristan is able to break her defenses that were guarding her heart for so long. Despite being opposites, she allows herself to fall deeper in love with him and starts to believe they are soul mates. He walked away from me and stood next to the front window. He pulled the curtain aside to gaze out of the glass and I heard him sigh softly. I wrapped my arms around myself as if I was cold and I looked down at my feet. At that moment, I wished Tristan could hear my thoughts. Maybe he did, because then he finally spoke. "Nanny told me one day...about some people who go through their whole lives in heartache and they don’t know why. They try to fill it with success, money, drugs, sex but nothing soothes the hurt. They even try to have relationships with other people but they never work out. The reason those people feel that way is because they’re actually one half of a single soul. And until they find their other half, they’ll never be happy. But if they’re lucky enough to find the other half of their soul...they’ll be happy and they’ll feel love for the rest of their life. But the love they feel is so intense and so powerful, that sometimes it’s scary. When the two people come together and become one soul...what they feel for each other is actually love in its purest form. They may feel like they can’t live without the other person. And the reality is...they can’t...not really."

I was still looking down at my feet as I listened to him tell Nanny’s story. I guess that’s why I didn’t notice when he moved from the window to stand directly in front of me. I felt him take his finger and lift my chin so our eyes would meet. There was wetness on his cheeks and his eyes were still watery. He wiped the remaining tears from my cheeks but neglected to wipe his own. Then he continued to speak. "Once I told Nanny that I didn’t understand my feelings for you. I told her that they scared me and that I didn’t understand why I loved you so much. And this is what she told me, Bridget." Tristan began to run his fingers through my hair and gently caress my face as he spoke. "She told me not to be afraid and that there was nothing wrong with me. She told me that I found my other half and I won’t have to sleep around anymore trying to stop the ache in my heart. And she was right. That’s why I fell in love with you when I first met you. I didn’t understand how it was possible ‘cause I never believed in love at first sight. Not until Nanny told me what I had found."

Tristan smiled and slipped his arms around my waist to pull me close to him. I don’t know why, but I needed to be in his arms like I needed air in my lungs. I wasted no time in closing our embrace and I heard myself start to sob in relief. He leaned his head down to kiss me firmly on the lips. When we ended the kiss, my prince continued to wipe my tears as he continued to reveal his feelings. "My father...before he became a cheating bastard...told me that a man will go through many flowers in his lifetime; probably even more weeds. But there is only one rose. And you know a rose has thorns so you won’t get to it so easily. But when you do get your rose, you hold onto it...you never let it go." Tristan looked intently into my eyes and I knew at that moment that he wanted to stay with me. "You’re my rose Bridget...my pretty red rose." He kissed me again and then he whispered, "That’s why I’ll never let you go..."
