Go MAD (Making A Difference)

I was so honored to direct crusade choirs in Haiti every summer and to meet new and wonderful friends from all over the United States, yet there was something missing. As we would practice during the day and travel to different churches and villages in the evening, it was practice, perform and go back to our hotel. Then start the same schedule the next day.

As I would ride our bus through the streets of this very poor country, I would look in the villages; look down the beaten paths to their huts. The something that was missing for me was that I wanted to know these natives in an up-close and personal way. I no longer just wanted to go to Haiti and perform. I wanted to know names, families, how they survive this mess they were in and what keeps them going.

I longed to get off that bus and just go for a walk into the village and visit those Haitians, but the wheels kept going on that bus, to another church and another performance.

Once again I was in a comfort zone, knowing what was going to happen but yet not content. So in order to change what I felt, I had to do something about it. It was one of those linger longer times, because this longing would not leave me. In fact, it went back to the States with me and the desire of wanting something different took root in my most inner being.

My two camaraderie's that had gone to Haiti, worked in music at my church with me. They challenged me with this statement, “Why don't you just start your own tour to Haiti?”…………………………………………………………

Anytime you have that desire, that longing, why wait??? Do something about it! How will you know if it will succeed or fail, if you don't try.

People want to help, people want to make a difference but many are waiting to find that once in an opportunity lifetime and for many of this was it -----a short-term mission trip to Haiti.

Something bigger, something more???? Little did I know where all this was leading.

Anyone can go MAD! Just find a need and meet it!

Can anyone make a difference? The answer is yes! It doesn't have to be going to a third world country, there are needs all around you. Everyday when you get up you are going to make a difference for someone. The wonderful part of all this is you may not know it at the time but years later the seed you planted started to show itself in a most wonderful way!

You see as I look back, I lived life to it's fullest not really trying to make a difference just living life. The first fourteen years going to Haiti with someone else was my training time. The wonderful part about that is because someone else was in charge; my life went on with having babies, directing choirs, singing in gospel groups, recording and working to make a living.

So many things and events happened in those years, it would take another book for more details. I do want to share just a few highlights of those years so you can see that God has a plan for your life and all you have to do is go through those open doors and trust him. He's got it all under control, even if you think you might be in control………………………………………………………………….

You take seven years of paying a hotel for groups of your people, most the time twice in one year. Needless to say, it was many thousands of dollars, which actually helped and blessed the Haitians.

But, we are visionaries and we could see something bigger - something more.
